Click on the image above to look at it in full resolution. A red dot in the image indicates a location of a thermal anomaly detected by MODIS on NASA.s Terra satellite using the middle infrared and thermal infrared bands. Most of the thermal anomalies over India correspond to a burning fire, but it may also indicate a volcanic eruption or a gas well flare. Fires over India are more common during the non-rainy season (November through May). The red dots do not represent the actual size of the fire detected by the MODIS sensor, but just the center of its location. |
